Nothing puts a loving touch on a wedding like projects you’ve put hard work into leading up to your big day.
My husband and I did a lot of projects for our wedding including all the signage, recyclable invitations, green table settings, flowers, favors, hair pieces, a custom isle runner, the arch way we got married under & more. We were engaged for a year, so we spread it out over that year & made Sunday’s our project day to finish one small thing toward our wedding. We used all recycled redwood for most of our projects & where we couldn’t use recyclable materials we donated most of our used items to charity or other couples. Staying earth-friendly was a big priority of mine & ultimately very fun to research.
A lot comes down to the weeks right before the wedding and if I could do it all over again I’d hire a wedding planner for the week of so that I could have enjoyed a few more of those pre-wedding days relaxing rather than delegating who was going to put what, where. However, the feedback we got from all of our friends and family was amazing and truly made our wedding that much more dear. Lots of remarks on our decor & exclamations of, “you made that?!” made us laugh the next day. We’ve since given away or borrowed a lot of our projects to other friends getting married.
In lieu of our great experience, I’ve pieced together some DIY projects that take a few hours up to a few days to complete. It’s important to set yourself up for success & choose projects that you can actually manage & will have fun with. If we ever had a project that was just reaching too far, we’d re-evaluate a way to simplify it & that kept stress away. Staying positive is key to you two having fun!
